Job Description:
Apply for the opportunity to join our team dedicated to
preserving and protecting Texas waters. 1.0 Job Summary Under the
direction of the Lead Operator, Operate the plant to meet the
process conditions defined by management. This includes monitoring
flows and treatment processes, performing basic maintenance
activities to keep equipment operating, analyzing samples,
adjusting pumps, and ensuring the work is done in a safe manner to
maintain permit compliance. 2.0 Typical Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Collect samples for various tests of plant processes, maintain
sample stations. 2.2 Monitor plant operations by observing the
plant operation and evaluating the process data collected. 2.3
Operate plant equipment such as Plant Pick-up, Belt Press. 2.4 Open
and Close valves (many over 12” in diameter). 2.5 Maintain records
of plant operations by recording data from tests, instruments and
meter totalizers. 2.6 Perform minor maintenance activities. 2.7
Prepare samples for transfer to central lab and commercial lab. 2.8
Review sample results from the city lab. 2.9 Communicate with
maintenance personnel, vendors and other plant operators. 2.10
Perform minor clean up and housekeeping duties of workplace and
laboratory. Maintain inventory like gloves, lab supplies, ice
packs, etc. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
2.11 Comply with all Plant and Gulf Coast Safety policies. 2.12
Consistently partner with all plant personnel to demonstrate
support for a productive, professional, and mutually respectful
work environment. 2.13 Consistently demonstrate support for company
policy and procedures. 3.0 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 3.1
Knowledge of the wastewater treatment process including the
operation of pumps and motors, piping, and electrical equipment.
3.2 Knowledge of standard testing procedures for taking samples,
running T.O.C., ammonia, D.O., TSS, ZSV, pH, TRC and D.O. uptakes.
3.3 Knowledge of the principles and practices for the safe
operation of a wastewater treatment plant. 3.4 Ability to read
memoranda, daily work schedules, log sheets, technical manuals, and
procedures. 3.5 Ability to perform mathematical calculations
necessary to compute plant flows and sample test results. 3.6
Ability to write memoranda, log sheets, work orders, and other
reports. 3.7 Ability to operate computer equipment. 3.8 Ability to
operate test equipment such as TOC, D.O. uptake, pH, TRC and
ammonia instruments, and hand-held pH and D.O. meters. 3.9 Ability
to operate an assigned vehicle. 3.10 Ability to use hand tools,
respirator, and fire extinguisher. 3.11 Ability to communicate
orally both in person and by telephone/radio. 3.12 Ability to use
Outlook and software like FMS, MPluse, Startup Data, WITS, WinLIMS,
etc. 4.0 Environmental conditions 4.1 Work is performed both
indoors and outdoors in extreme heat (110 degrees F) and cold (32
degrees F) in all weather conditions. 4.2 Work involves exposure to
potential noise, mechanical, electrical, explosives, fume/odor,
chemical, and toxic waste hazards with proper precautionary
procedures. 5.0 Education, certification, and experience required
5.1 High school diploma or equivalent. 5.2 Two years’ experience in
the operation and maintenance of activated sludge wastewater
treatment plants. 5.3 Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License. 6.0
Physical requirements 6.1 Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel,
crouch/stoop, squat, twist the upper body, and climb ladders and
steps while performing various job functions such as inspecting
plant, taking samples, and adjusting valves. 6.2 Ability to carry
up to 50 pounds of weight while going up and down ladders and
stairs and moving those items between various job sites 6.3 Ability
to grasp with hands and manipulate tools, pumps, and knife gate
valves. 6.4 Ability to grasp with hands and manipulate glass sample
bottles. 6.5 Ability to bend while pushing and pulling a brush to
clean the clarifier. 7.0 Additional requirements per location 7.1
Prepare samples for shipping to central lab or transporting
commercial lab . 7.2 Interface with truck in waste customers and
complete necessary paperwork . 7.3 Monitor and record treatment
chemical supply . 7. 4 Prepare work orders . 8.0 Summary The above
